ISO Recorder 3.1 For Microsoft Windows Vista And Microsoft Windows 7
Every now and then I need a create ISO’s or even burn ISO’s. With Windows 7, Microsoft has added support for burning ISO’s just by double-clicking on a ISO. This is great but there are still a few things missing. The ability to launch an ISO and the ability to create an ISO. For launching ISO’s, I used Daemon Tools. Daemon Tools has just been updated to support Windows 7 but since running it, I have noticed a few problems and as such I am now using SlySoft Virtual CloneDrive which runs well on Windows 7.
So that tackles one of problems, now onto creating ISO’s. There are loads and loads of tools out on the market to do this. Personally I feel that most of them are way to bloated and have a million features which most users will never make use of. I want a simple, select files, create ISO tool and ISO Recorder is a tool that does just that!
ISO Recorder is a tool (power toy) for Windows XP, 2003 and now Windows Vista, that allows (depending on the Windows version) to burn CD and DVD images (DVD support is only available on Windows Vista), copy disks, make images of the existing data CDs and DVDs and create ISO images from a content of a disk folder.
ISO Recorder has been conceived during Windows XP beta program, when Microsoft for the first time started distributing new OS builds as ISO images. Even though the new OS had CD-burning support (by Roxio), it did not have an ability to record an image. ISO Recorder has filled this need and has been one of the popular Windows downloads ever since.
Alex Feinman has updated ISO Recorder for Windows Vista and Windows 7.
The latest version provides the following updates:
- Windows 7 support. Also compatible with Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008.
- DVD recording. A DVD image, including a bootable one can be recorded. D
- DVD image creation is supported
Using ISO Recorder is really simple. Right-click on a DVD for example and select Create Image from CD/DVD.
Within minutes, you have an ISO created. ISO Recorder can also record bootable ISO’s for Microsoft Windows so it’s a great tool to have and its free! Still wonder why Microsoft hasn’t added this into Windows 7.

ImgBurn is another great tool for creating ISO’s and it to supports Win 7

Yup I’ve used it in the past. Neat tool! Thanks Tony
great info, and thanks for the shoutout..
I use BurnAware free, although I can’t say off the top of my head if it’s supported in Win7. It’s lean and mean, very fast, and allows you to create your own ISO’s from scratch.
