Microsoft Silverlight Map Viewer For ArcGIS Server 9.3
This has been talked about since the ESRI Developer Summit 2008 earlier this year and earlier this week Richie Carmichael wrote up about a new Microsoft Silverlight map viewer that he has developed for ArcGIS Server 9.3.
The Silverlight map viewer is a proof of concept developed by the ESRI Prototype Lab. The viewer is based on the MultiScaleImage control which is also known as DeepZoom. DeepZoom is essentially a technology for viewing an image pyramids. A popular implementation of the DeepZoom technology is the Hard Rock Cafe Memorabilia web page. The map viewer is based on Silverlight 2 beta 2 which is cross-browser on both Mac and Windows machines.
Since the release of the ArcGIS Server 9.3 Flex API, many have been asking about a similar API for Microsoft Silverlight. The map control uses the ArcGIS Server 9.3 REST API along with a map service that is cached.
Richie has a full write up about this new map control. You can find his write up here: http://mrrichie.spaces.live.com/blog/… Two demonstration websites can be found here: http://maps.esri.com/SilverlightMap/… and here: http://maps.esri.com/SilverlightMap/…
The download for the map control including source code can be found on the ESRI Resource Centre Code Gallery here: http://resources.esri.com/arcgisserver/…
