Presentation Extension For ArcGIS Desktop
After the ESRI Developer Summit 2009 in Palm Springs last week, I spent Friday at the ESRI campus in Redlands. It was great catching up with the Application Prototype Team and seeing what they have been working.
One of the nice samples Richie has been working on is the Presentation Extension for ArcGIS Desktop.
What does it offer? Well it allows users to give presentations directly from ArcMap without the need for Microsoft Powerpoint. It also gives users the ability to interact with the map during the presentation.
The sample comes with a Presentation Manager and a Presentation Window. It’s built using Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF)
The Presentation Manager allows users to create and manipulate “slides”. The notion of slides can be thought about as being similar to bookmarks. You can also set the behaviour of the presentation.
The default presentation view is shown above. In the bottom right is a expander. Clicking it will make available a number of familiar mapping tools. Users can active these and interact with the map.
This is very cool stuff! The same concept is coming to ArcGIS Explorer 900 which was heavily showcased at the ESRI Developer Summit 2009. In the meanwhile you can use it in ArcGIS. This sample works on ArcGIS 9.2, 9.3. You will need .NET .3.5 SP1 installed since it’s a WPF application.
Richie has made this sample available on the ArcGIS Desktop Code Gallery. You can download it here: http://resources.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/…. He has also included the source code, so you have the flexibility of extending it however you want.
Great work Richie! Richie’s full write up about this sample can be found here: http://mrrichie.spaces.live.com/blog/… There are a number of other cool samples that the Application Prototype Team will be releasing soon so keep an eye out!

Is there a video demonstrating the functionality of this? Looks awesome, can’t wait to test it out
I have installed ArcGIS 9.3 SP1…it’s working….
