ArcGIS 10 Resource Centres Now Available
The ArcGIS 10 Resource Centres are now available!
This comes as part of ArcGIS 10 Prerelease which will be made available for download later today. The new look resource centres were talked about and showcased at both the ESRI Business Partner Conference 2010 and the ESRI Developer Summit 2010.
The new resource centres not only provide an updated look and feel but also and introduction into arcgis.com, looking at ArcGIS as an online system rather than a specific product.
ArcGIS is an online system for using geographic information everywhere – in desktop applications, Web browsers, and mobile devices, which connect to GIS services from thousands of organizations worldwide.
The resources centres are categorised in the similar way that they were for the ArcGIS 9.3 release. Drilling into a particular product, function or user community we are presented with all the resources available.
Each product sports a different resource centre. Some of the common resources available via the side-bar include:
- Help
- Blogs
- Forums
- Knowledge Base
- White Papers
- Known Issues
- Software Updates
- System Requirements
- Installation Guides
- Licensing
While across the top we have information about the product, as well resources associated with the product.
As we drill in further we are taken to the relevant resource centre with links providing information on that particular resource as well as links to downloads.
Updated searching capability has been included in this new release.
The new searching capability provides a powerful and effective way of finding resources. After a search, resources are categorised into sections allowing you to not only find but access the resource you require quickly and efficiently.
There is also a new look and feel to the ESRI Support Centre. Mike Hogan provide information about this here: http://geo.geek.nz/esri/… and I will provide a write up soon.
For those wondering about the existing ArcGIS 9.3.1 resource centres, they have not disappeared. They are still available and can be access at the same URL: http://resources.esri.com
I am not sure if these will remain running after the release of ArcGIS 10 but I would imagine it’s about helping users migrate over to arcgis.com
The ArcGIS 10 Resource Centres are extremely powerful. We have been using these for months as part of the beta program and they provide a much easier and efficient way of going about accessing resources. Its now your one stop portal provide integrated support and community resources.
I know the team at ESRI have been working hard in getting these new resource centres ready for ArcGIS 10. If you are going to be working with ArcGIS 10 Prerelease then you will need to keep and eye on these new resource centres.
