After a slight delay our office copies of ArcGIS 9.3.1 has arrived. We received the update media last week.
This was a four dvd set which included updates for ArcGIS 9.3., ArcGIS Server 9.3, ArcSDE 9.3 and ArcGIS Image Server 9.3.
I have been waiting for the standalone installation packages to arrive and just this afternoon they arrived.
ESRI is now shipping these out in new soft cover packages rather than boxes. Good for the environment. They include everything the boxed ArcGIS 9.3 version did.
I am hoping to install these along with Windows 7 on my work laptop this weekend so I will let you know how this goes.
Customers in New Zealand can expect ArcGIS 9.3.1 to arrive sometime in June. ESRI is currently shipping these at the moment. Once they arrive in New Zealand we will process them and get them out to customers as soon as possible. I’ll post any updates on this closer to the time.
I would presume, seeing first year maintenance is free, if you have brought ArcGIS in the last year, you would get 9.3.1 as well, despite not having maintenance contract.
The delay in the release is poor form, this was promised for April, now released in May and not due to June.
What was the quality of the packing like? I’ve very interested to know if ESRI have continued to utilise the high quality plastic sleeves that you commented on when you posted on the release of 9.3….
Hi Jithen
Do you now where can I download it?. I have the licence for de 9.3 and it runs over the 9.3.1.
Sorry for my bad english
Thanks
Carlos
Better to download than to get the DVDs by regular snailmail. I still do not understand why large software companies just stop to send DVDs by regular mail and just offer them for download instead. The copyprotection is still the same and by using bittorrent- technology it will even go fast without too heavy load on their servers!
So, are you a business; why do you say it’s out, but won’t be out for customers until June?
Let us know when the first 9.3.1 bug arrives!
@confused – mandown works for an ESRI reseller, who else could be so excited about a service pack?
Thanks Bugsy. I’m pretty excited about it, I’m in the middle of a large caching project and not only will the alleged speed increases help a lot, but the bug that’s keeping me from being able to update caches via Python scripts will supposedly be fixed, just in time.
@Bugsy M. ArcGIS 9.3.1 is not a SP. It’s a new version of the ArcGIS platform. Only customers on maintenance will recieve the updates as part of the ship out process.
@Confused. I work for Eagle Technology Group Ltd, we are the ESRI New Zealand Distributor. ArcGIS 9.3.1 is a good quality release. The guys have worked hard to get a number of bugs fixed and also focus on performance!
@Jithen,
Bug fixes and performance improvements – sounds like the equivalent of a Service Pack to me. Will the poor souls not on a maintenance plan, who are stuck on 9.3, be receiving a service pack? If not, they’re being shafted as usual.
@Bugsy ArcGIS 9.3.1 does not only contain bug fixes and performance improvements. There are a number of new features. See: http://www.eaglegis.co.nz/…/newsItem.aspx on our that outlines a bundle of these new features.
The new high performance dynamic drawing engine, along with the MXD optimiser and analyzer are just some of the new features added in this release.
As mentioned above, ONLY those current on maintenance will recieve ArcGIS 9.3.1 as part of the ship out process. ArcGIS 9.3.1 will not be available for download.
In New Zealand we are also hoping to run a Seminar Series Roadshow, showcases this new release.
