ArcGIS 9.3 Component And Platform Deprecation

ESRI has updated the ESRI Support Centre with a new announcement on ArcGIS 9.3 Component and Platform Deprecation.

ESRI has always been committed to providing our customers with the highest level of support and service. However, over time, some components or supported platforms of ESRI software must be marked for deprecation. Deprecation means that a particular feature is included in the product for the current release but that the support level for this feature is now mature support and the component or platform will not be supported in the next release.

The following is the list of what has been deprecated in ArcGIS 9.3:

ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE Geocoding Deprecation

ArcGIS Server 9.3 offers a comprehensive and flexible capability to support server-side geocoding. Although ArcSDE has supported server-side geocoding, it is now no longer a recommended best practice to use for deploying server-side geocoding services. Because of this, ESRI has made a decision to deprecate ArcSDE server-side geocoding at the 9.3 release of ArcGIS Server. This means that ArcSDE server-side geocoding will not be included with the next release.

ArcGIS Server CAD Client and Platform Deprecation

At 9.3, ESRI will be deprecating the ArcSDE CAD Client technology. We recognize the investment our customers have made in ArcSDE CAD Client-related software, hardware, and staff training, so we are working on better alternatives to the CAD Client for our next release that allow CAD software from Autodesk to work in a more integrated manner with an RDBMS-based geodatabase.

ArcIMS Component Deprecation

At 9.3, ESRI will be deprecating two additional ArcIMS components:

  • The Java Custom and Java Standard Viewers (Users should consider using the Web Mapping Application that is part of the .NET and Java Web Application Developer Framework [ADF]. Note: The HTML Viewer has not been deprecated.)
  • ColdFusion Connector

This means that the Java Custom and Java Standard Viewers and the ColdFusion Connector will not be included with the next release after 9.3.

In addition to these two components, 9.3 will be the last ArcIMS release to support the HP-UX PA-RISC and Windows 2000 Server operating systems.

ArcInfo Workstation DBI Deprecation

After discussing this with key customers, ESRI has made the decision to deprecate ArcInfo Workstation Database Integrator (DBI) at 9.3. This means that DBI will not be included with the next release after 9.3.
