ArcGIS.com has now gone live and is available for use. While this is in beta its available for the public to use. ArcGIS.com was talked about and showcased heavily at the ESRI Business Partner Conference 2010 and the ESRI Developer Summit 2010 and forms part of what’s coming with the release of ArcGIS 10.

We are pleased to announce that ArcGIS.com is now in public beta. This new site has replaced http://www.arcgisonline.com and includes a number of new features and improvements that we invite you to explore.

At the ArcGIS.com site, you can browse featured ArcGIS Online content such as maps and applications published by ESRI and the ArcGIS community, and add comments and ratings. You can upload and share your own items, either with specific groups that you created or are a member of, or you can share your items publicly. Use the newly designed Web Mapping application to quickly create online mashups that you can also share with others.

ArcGIS.com has become ArcGIS Online allowing users to not only share and browse maps but do loads more!

The map allows users to create a map. This can be done very easily by choosing a basemap and then adding data from either ArcGIS.com or an ArcGIS Server. I quickly created this map connecting to our ArcGIS Server and using Bing as a basemap. This is showing Statistics New Zealand Dwellings data overlaid on Bing Maps. Once created this map can be share with others easily.

Groups allow users to create, share and collaborate with others. This might be maps or data that you wouldn’t want to be made public. The My Content section provides management of the the data you might be sharing with others. This is the administration side of things.

ArcGIS.com provides a great facelift for the previous http://www.arcgisonline.com. It’s built on a number of the ideas we saw with the initial version which were released around ArcGIS 9.3.1 and really sets itself up for the release of ArcGIS 10.

If you have uploaded items and created groups through http://www.arcgisonline.com, you will now be able to access your content at http://www.arcgis.com. Simply sign-in with your existing ESRI Global Account login and you will find everything you contributed under My Content and Groups.

Creating maps and sharing data is easier now with ArcGIS.com. Getting a web map up and running can now be done in a matter of seconds if you have already shared or published the data. ArcGIS.com has also been integrated into ArcGIS 10 allowing users to very share the work from their desktop.

The ArcGIS Online Team has more information on ArcGIS.com here: http://blogs.esri.com/support/…

Head over to ArcGIS.com and have a play around. It’s something I think will grow!
