Recommended System Requirements For ArcGIS 10
ArcGIS 10 is coming soon and many have been asking questions around recommended system requirements. Updated system requirements for ArcGIS 10 are now available on the ArcGIS 10 Resource Centres here: http://resources.arcgis.com/…

The recommended system requirements above provide a general starting point when spec’ing an ArcGIS Server. These should be used as an indication ONLY.
Recommended system requirements for ArcGIS Server will change dependant on configuration and the role ArcGIS Server will play in an overall solution. A number of factors have to be taken into consideration when spec’ing an ArcGIS Server and it is recommended to use the System Design Strategies document to do this. This can be found here: http://geo.geek.nz/esri/…
NOTE: These are MY recommended system requirements for a high-performance deployment of ArcGIS Desktop 10 along with a general indication of what would be required for an OOTB deployment of ArcGIS Server 10.
ESRI recommended system requirements for ArcGIS Desktop 10 can be found here: http://resources.arcgis.com/content/… with ArcGIS Server 10 here: http://resources.arcgis.com/content/… It’s highly recommended you contact your local office to check on system requirements if you are unsure.

Tracking down hardware requirements has been quite tricky for AGS 10. I have seen and tried to use the capacity planning tool on the esri wiki but man that stuff just goes “Zoooooooooom” right over my head. Your indications above are quite interesting.
I have a question regarding RAM allocation. A bit of background, I will be running AGS 10 (My DB is on a separate server) on VMware. I am licensed for 1 CPU – 4 Cores. The esri docco on AGS on VM has been great but I still have one question. What is an appropriate/effective amount of RAM to provide to this VM guest? The underlying server has plenty of resources in terms of harddisk and RAM to provide the VM Guest but surely AGS 10 has a limit on the amount of RAM it would use. On the forums everyone seems to have different ideas 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and all justified in different ways.
