Earlier this year ESRI announced ArcPad 7.2. A few weeks later the beta program was opened to a select few users allowing those accepted into the program to test the software.

As at the latest beta release, ArcPad 7.2 has been renamed to ArcPad 8.

ESRI has published a bundle of information on what we can expect from ArcPad 8.

ArcPad 8 will include new capabilities, performance improvements and quality enhancements. ArcPad Application Builder, the development framework to customize ArcPad, will be included with every ArcPad 8 license. At version 8, ArcPad will become a maintenance-based product and customers may subscribe to annual maintenance to get ArcPad updates and technical support.

Some of the highlights include:

  • Synchronize Edits with ArcGIS Server
  • New User Interface
  • Improved GPS User Interface
  • Enhanced ArcPad Data Manager Extension
  • StreetMap Improvements

Full information on each of these highlights can be found here: http://www.esri.com/software/… ArcPad 8 is expected to be released during Q1 2009.
