ArcGIS Server 9.2, Working With The Mobile ADF

Since I have a nice little smartphone, I thought I would give it a go and check out the ArcGIS Server 9.2 Mobile ADF! I haven’t really played much with the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK so it was going to be interesting.

Didn’t take me long to pick it up, pretty normal stuff actually. I was really impressed. The Mobile ADF is pretty neat. It has very nice web controls that you can drag and drop onto your forms to make use of. Check it out below:

I basically created a new mobile project in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005. I was then able to drag on the control. You then need a MapCache. Set a few properties and you are away!

Works really well. You can use the emulators that ship with the Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 SDK to run the application if you don’t have a mobile device. You will have to setup ActiveSync to allow you to deploy it to the emulated device.

I’m going to be playing with it in more detail just to get the feel of things. Will post more information soon :)
