ArcSDE 9.1 For Oracle10gR2

Well it was just two weeks ago that I found out about this problem. We were putting a ArcSDE server. Installed 9.1 and patched it. This was on Oracle 10g r1. It worked fine and we had no problems. We then decided to install Oracle 10g r2 and guess what? I don’t work!

After looking around we found that ArcSDE 9.1 doesn’t work with Oracle 10g r2. There is an article on the ESRI Support Site outlining the problems. The solution is not a patch though but rather its a whole new release of ArcSDE!

Since we were working late we and couldn’t afford any downtime we needed to have this fixed ASAP. At the time we wanting to fix it there wasn’t a download. You had to contact ESRI who was asleep due to the time difference. Thanks to the guys at ESRI Australia we were able to grab this!

I see ESRI has now made this available as a download from the ESRI Support Site.

“This release of ArcSDE 9.1 for Oracle10gR2 includes all the fixes addressed in previously released 9.1 Patches and Service Packs. It also includes all the fixes addressed in ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 which will be released in the near future. Therefore, you do not need to install ArcSDE 9.1 Service Pack 2 on top of this release.”

Its quite interesting to see ESRI has released the entire ArcSDE 9.1 cd to the web for download. Obviously you wont be able to run it unless you have you authorisation file. So if you are having problems, head over and grab this new build of ArcSDE 9.1.
