Community Server 2.1 Metablog API Updated!

Now this is something I have been wanting for ages and its now finally possible. A lot of people keep telling me I never have any pictures to accompany any of my posts. The reason I never had any was because it was quite a mission to insert pictures. I had to copy the file over to the server which was the first mission as it locked down being production based server. The second part was then inserting the link so the picture can be seen.

Now all those problems go away. The new Metablog API is really powerful.

“This update extends the MetaWeblogAPI service in Community Server 2.1, adding support for the newMediaObject method. It will allow images and other files to be uploaded to a blog using the MetaWeblogAPI web service. Many MetaWeblogAPI clients support this method, such as Windows Live Writer and www.blogmailr.com.

To update your CS 2.1 site copy the included MetaBlog.ashx file into the “blogs” folder, overwriting the existing file. No other changes are required if you want to use the default settings (see below).”

I can just use Windows Live Writer or email to attach a photo that will automatically get posted. No hassles. I guess I will start posting loads more pictures and other content :)

You can grab the updated Metablog API from the Community Server downloads section here: http://communityserver.org/files/folders/cs_service_packs/entry555672.aspx
