Microsoft Windows Vista Installed!

Well it’s taken me a while but I have finally got there. Due to applications and other little things that we had to support I couldn’t rush to installed Windows Vista. I start a new enterprise development project on Monday as such I thought it was time for a reinstall to clean out my laptop.

Since we haven’t actually done any .NET 1.1 development in a while I thought I would install Windows Vista. I am now running Windows Vista Business Edition on my work laptop. So far its running pretty awesome. Our laptops are pretty grunty machines and we have 2 Gb RAM so the performance is actually pretty awesome. Microsoft Windows Vista has quite a few mobility features which help this as well.

I haven’t finished getting everything running yet, but I will have ArcGIS Desktop 9.2 (ArcEditor), ArcGIS Server 9.2 and the runtimes for JAVA and .NET installed. One of the other guys I am working with has also just installed Windows Vista along with a bundle of the ESRI products. So far we have yet to see any compatibility issues.

There are things that do pop up now and then but these are mainly security issues which as you know, Windows Vista is very tight about.

So far I am very impressed at Windows Vista and it’s performance. Even my VM’s run really well under Windows Vista. Just one note though, if you are running dual monitors and you have an ATI graphics card in you laptop? Make sure you get the latest drivers from ATI as Windows Vista’s drivers do weird things :)
