As you can imagine conference preperations are well ahead and theres only 4 weeks to go!
I cant wait for yet another conference to start. Its all fun and filled with some good presentations. Not sure if I mentioned it before but this year, all the Professional Services Team has to make a presence at the conference. Last year due to work load, it was optional and dependent on work load, this should be...

I see Brian has posted an updated with some information about the new tune up that EDN Search has recieved (http://www.spatiallyenabled.com/2005/09/edn_search_gets.html) I have been noticing the search to actually be quite annoying over the last couple months! Anything you searched? It would return you tons of Java results, which is no use to me. I really didnt have the time to crawl through all the search results to find what I was looking for. The new version also now includes versioned searching. This can be handy, to be able to just search on a specific version. I have noticed certain stuff to...

Well I knew I would get back into trying to tackle this problem again.
My previous postings can be found here: Part 1 (http://se7en.co.nz/cms/scrappad/archive/2005/07/14/576.aspx) Part 2 (http://se7en.co.nz/cms/scrappad/archive/2005/07/17/586.aspx)
I spent a little while today re-looking at the problem. Ive been told that this issue has been fixed in 9.1, and now that I have started a new project and we are building again, I thought I would try this out. Basically the problem is that the WebMap object doesnt manage the extent for you if create it using one of the constructors. Something that can be...

News from Art about a developers conference in Sweden!, Sweden?Sounds pretty cool though.
“The first ever ESRI Sweden Nordic Developer Conference in November. This is an ESRI hosted conference and I have discovered that ESRI Sweden (along with Microsoft and IBM) are sending out approx 30,000 invites!”
Art’s going to be presenting at this conference. Technical sessions and also a keynote, very impressive!
The good thing about this is that ESRI will be able to pick up a number of ideas from the conference and we should see many of them at the ESRI Developers...

James has been talking about this (http://www.spatiallyadjusted.com/2005/09/esri_edn_begins_posting_video.html) and it started a bit of discussion and now some feedback from Art and Brian. They have mentioned that they are going to start to add alot more videos onto EDN. More along the lines of what Channel 9 is like. This should makes things very intresting. Im all keen to see new fun videos of things happening at ESRI. Art has also mentioned (http://spaces.msn.com/members/artsplace/Blog/cns!1pDQ5hH2b6fbo-VPupWXeh7Q!149.entry) that there could be some videos of his team being...

Art Haddad has just posted an update on his blog of some of the new features coming soon. Its been a while since we’ve heard from Art regarding some of the cool new stuff to come out from ESRI. With 9.2 very quickly approaching beta, the guys at ESRI are pretty flat out, and Art has mentioned this.
One of the biggest and new features coming with 9.2 is the .NET Web ADF. The new ADF contains a number of new spatial controls, and as you can imagine im dying to get my hands on this.
Some of the spatiall controls coming in 9.2 from Art:
Support for multiple Servers and Services –...

Ive just been using Micrsoft update and just wondering to myself, how nice would it be if ESRI had an automatic update for the software base. When I was at the conference there was some talk of this in 9.2?, but I didnt hear much. Does anyone know if ESRI are thinking of doing this?. Pretty much the same idea as Microsoft, web based automatic update and even automated checking for updates. Im sure this will have great advantages for a number of big corporates out there, needing to update systems. They can just run the update. The other big benefit of this, that I see, is that ESRI can release patches...

I have just been reading Ed Parson’s post where he talks about P2P geodata. Moving geodata across the internet can be hard especially when they are such big chunks of data. ISP’s dont really like this as it eats there bandwidth up really quickly. Now that geodata has moved into torrents this is going to be intresting as, ISP’s dont like torrents! Im not sure if this is the case in other countries but in New Zealand, ISP’s really dont like P2P traffic. The majority of traffic through there network is P2P and it normally kills most of the HTTP traffic. For example have a look at my ISP...
