Tracking The Our Far South Expedition

As part of Gareth Morgan’s Our Far South expedition to the Antarctic, Eagle Technology Group Ltd are serving up real time ArcGIS.com maps showing the expedition ship’s location, points of interest and blog related information.

Gareth Morgan will be heading to Antarctic and the sub-Antarctic Islands to raise New Zealander’s awareness of the area and it’s importance. Gareth and a team of expects will be on board a Russian ice breaker.

Throughout the expedition, we will be tracking the vessel’s location and route through the feeds on board.

The feeds provide the vessel’s location which we are serving up through ArcGIS Server and consuming using ArcGIS.com maps.

One of the goals of Our Far South is to enable people of all ages to get involved with the expedition and learn more about the area south of Stewart Island and why it is important to us. The education section (http://www.ourfarsouth.org/education/) contains information on the issues that the expedition will be exploring as well as information for teachers and classrooms.

From a educational tracking perspective, there is a dedicate viewer that is available.

The education viewer will provide information targeted towards school teachers and classrooms.

Both of the above maps can be accessed from the following locations:

The expedition leaves this evening and over the next few days, we should be seeing and hearing from the crew on how things are going. They will be updating the viewers above with information when they can!
