Catching Up On The Week Ending 9th March

Wow, it’s been a pretty full week here. I have been busy building some cool demonstrations for clients and sorting out some of our Technical Solutions servers. We have moved to using Sun hardware now on our Technical Solutions side. Sun Microsystems New Zealand was very kind to provide us with hardware to use for hosting and delivering our demonstrations.

I have been doing some pretty cool stuff with the 3D Analyst Extension in ArcGIS to do with viewshed analysis and if I am allowed to I might publish this up as it’s a pretty neat demonstration of what you can achieve by using some of these tools.

I have also completed a new extension for the latest build of ArcGIS Explorer. It’s targeted towards a New Zealand audience and allows users to carry out search’s on New Zealand data that we will host. I haven’t seen a similar extension for ArcGIS Explorer so I decided to write my own.

Around the world, I see lot’s has been happening, with Mix ’08 taking place at the moment and some pretty cool announcements. Some of the highlights for me:

Internet Explorer 8 Beta 1
Silverlight 2 Beta 1
Expression Blend 2.5 Preview
ASP.NET MVC Preview 2

Great to see and hear news about the Internet Explorer 8. I am about to download and give this a go. I am keen to see the new rendering engine and how this performs.

On other notes, we fly out to the Business Partner/Developer Summit next Friday. I am really looking forward to catching up with everyone. We will be staying at Hotel Zoso and should arrive Saturday afternoon in Palm Springs. So if you are around come over and say hi :)
