Esri’s ArcGIS software is the preferred GIS for local governments around the world. This is especially true in New Zealand where ArcGIS in used in councils representing over 75% of our population. “It has been almost exactly 25 years since we made our first GIS sale to a local council,” says Greg Dillon-Price, who was brought on by Eagle 20 years ago fresh out of varsity. “Since that time we have seen GIS evolve from a leading edge technology to a pervasive solution. Today, for New Zealand local and regional councils, ArcGIS is the defacto standard.”
Indeed, New Zealand’s largest new local authority, Auckland Council, has standardised on Esri’s ArcGIS. Ian Smith, Geospatial Manager, Auckland Council, says ArcGIS will be at the forefront of service delivery. “GIS technology will provide truly integrated location aware planning and decision making with all property, asset and customer relations interacting in a geospatial window. It will be a key tool in the support and delivery of the Auckland Plan that will shape the future of the region over the next 30 years.”
