ESRI has posted a nice map caching case study using New Zealand Topographic Maps. It talks about the New Zealand 1:50,000 Topographic Maps and the process involved in going about generating a cache. Source data from Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) was in Laserscan IFF format. This was massaged and made available in an .mxd which was then published up using ArcGIS Server. The caching exercise then began to generate a number of .jpegs for faster viewing.
