Heads up for those ArcPad 8 users. ArcPad 8 Service Pack 3 is now available for download.
The ArcPad 8.0 Service Pack 3 addresses specific issues in the ArcPad 8.0 product release related to international language support in ArcPad Studio, Windows 7 compatibility, and drawing performance.
There are a bundle of new updates and fixes. SP3 addresses three specific areas:
Issues specific to Microsoft Windows 7/Vista Support
Foreign language support in ArcPad Studio

I have been catching up on blog posts since I have been away in Redlands and I noticed there was one I missed from last week. ArcPad 8 Service Pack 2 was released!
The ArcPad 8.0 Service Pack 2 addresses some specific issues from the ArcPad 8.0 release related to GPS and localization. It includes a number of bug fixes and a new developer sample.
The key issue addressed in SP2 is the behavior of the GPS. There is improved performance and frequency of updates to the GPS cursor, GPS panel and GPS position window. Unnecessary flickering of the GPS has been removed.

Something I missed last month was the release of ArcPad 8.0 Service Pack 1.
The ArcPad 8.0 Service Pack 1 and ArcGIS Server ArcPad Extension 8.0 Service Pack 1 address some specific issues from the ArcPad 8.0 release. It includes a number of other bug fixes and enhancements as well.

ArcPad 8.0 was released last month and came bundled with a number of new features and enhancements. One of the newest features added to ArcPad 8.0 is the ArcPad 8.0 Extension for ArcGIS Server. The extension allows users to connect to ArcGIS Server 9.3 services and synchronise data over the air.
Those that have tried to use the ArcPad 8.0 Extension for ArcGIS Server on ArcGIS Server 9.3.1 would have noticed a few problems with map services.

The ArcPad Development Team has posted a good list of software and firmware versions to use with ArcPad 8. Since the release of ArcPad 8, there has not been any major software and firmware changes from the common hardware vendors which is great!
Software that has received particular interest on the forum is GPS Correct and GPS Analyst. At this stage, Trimble confirms that there is not going to be a specific update to these products directly related to ArcPad 8. Existing users should continue to use 2.42 and 2.1 respectively. As users are starting to download and use the new improved ArcPad 8, a note has been posted for those using Trimble Nomad devices.
