So the last few days I have been updating my work laptop to Microsoft Windows 7 Release Candidate. I have now successfully reinstalled most of my existing software. This also includes a new installation of ArcGIS 9.3.1. I am very impressed with Windows 7 Release Candidate, Microsoft has done a great job with this release. The long awaited Windows 7 Release Candidate is now available for download to MSDN and Technet users. Microsoft servers are being hammered right now with the demand on Windows 7 Release Candidate. I was able to grab it install it and have it running. Windows 7 Release Candidate added a bundle more features along with quite a few bug fixes. Virtual XP for Microsoft Windows 7 is also now available for download to MSDN and Technet users. I have now got ArcGIS Explorer successfully installed and running well on Microsoft Windows 7. This wasn’t really a big thing to figure out but due to the windows installer bug in Windows 7 beta it caused a few crashes initially. [Update 1] So this afternoon I thought I would attempt to install ArcGIS Explorer on Microsoft Windows 7. Downloaded the latest version from here: http://resources.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/… Double-clicked the .exe and accepted the prompt to run the setup. The installer starts unpacking bundles of files. As most of you know the talk on the web over the last few days has been about Microsoft Windows 7 and it’s release into beta status. A few drivers were missing but once connected to the internet the rest of the drivers were all updated. Thought it was time to install ArcGIS 9.3. Mounted the ISO using Virtual CloneDrive. Well it’s been a great start to 2009! I am still on holiday and enjoying it. I don’t get back to work till middle of next week so still enjoying the break and the wonderful summer weather.
