So the last few days I have been updating my work laptop to Microsoft Windows 7 Release Candidate. I have now successfully reinstalled most of my existing software. This also includes a new installation of ArcGIS 9.3.1. I am very impressed with Windows 7 Release Candidate, Microsoft has done a great job with this release. A few new features but also tons of bug fixes. One of the last pieces of software I needed to reinstall was Tomcat Apache. Microsoft Windows 7 Release Candidate Now Available On MSDN

The long awaited Windows 7 Release Candidate is now available for download to MSDN and Technet users. Microsoft servers are being hammered right now with the demand on Windows 7 Release Candidate. I was able to grab it install it and have it running. Windows 7 Release Candidate added a bundle more features along with quite a few bug fixes. Virtual XP for Microsoft Windows 7 is also now available for download to MSDN and Technet users. ArcGIS Explorer Running Well On Microsoft Windows 7

I have now got ArcGIS Explorer successfully installed and running well on Microsoft Windows 7. This wasn’t really a big thing to figure out but due to the windows installer bug in Windows 7 beta it caused a few crashes initially. Installing ArcGIS Explorer On Microsoft Windows 7 – Updated!

[Update 1] So this afternoon I thought I would attempt to install ArcGIS Explorer on Microsoft Windows 7. Downloaded the latest version from here: http://resources.esri.com/arcgisexplorer/… Double-clicked the .exe and accepted the prompt to run the setup. The installer starts unpacking bundles of files. You then get this. Hmm. Windows 7 is not supported. Fair enough, this is good and something I suspected. The setup must be checking the level of Windows you have up to Windows Vista. Installing ArcGIS 9.3 On Microsoft Windows 7 – Updated!

[Update 1 Below] [Update 2 Below] [Update 3 Below] So this afternoon I decided to install Microsoft Windows 7 on one of my laptops. The install ran very well. A few drivers were missing but once connected to the internet the rest of the drivers were all updated. Thought it was time to install ArcGIS 9.3. Mounted the ISO using Virtual CloneDrive. Daemon Tools does not work on Windows 7 so Virtual CloneDrive is a good alternative. Mounted the ArcEditor 9.3 ISO and selected the options I normally do. Well it’s been a great start to 2009! I am still on holiday and enjoying it. I don’t get back to work till middle of next week so still enjoying the break and the wonderful summer weather.
