Microsoft Silverlight Map Viewer For ArcGIS Server 9.3

This has been talked about since the ESRI Developer Summit 2008 earlier this year and earlier this week Richie Carmichael wrote up about a new Microsoft Silverlight map viewer that he has developed for ArcGIS Server 9.3. The Silverlight map viewer is a proof of concept developed by the ESRI Prototype Lab.  The viewer is based on the MultiScaleImage control which is also known as DeepZoom.  DeepZoom is essentially a technology for viewing an image pyramids.  A popular implementation of the DeepZoom technology is the Hard Rock Cafe Memorabilia web page. The map viewer is based on...

ArcGIS Server 9.3 REST API Cache

I am rapidly trying to catch up on the news since I have been away down in the South Island skiing and on holiday! I had a great time and even came away with a nasty injury which has left me wearing a knee brace! A post that was made last week from the ArcGIS Server Development Team answers a bundle of questions that some users have been asking with the ArcGIS Server 9.3 REST API. The REST API caches information about folders and services to boost performance. The REST application is implemented such that the first time a service (or a folder) is accessed it fetches the information for that service...

Day 1 Using The ArcGIS Server REST API At The ESRI Developer Summit 2008

This was the first technical session where we started to get more in depth about  some of the technology. I had been holding out for this session for quite a while and by the end I was very impressed. The ArcGIS Server REST API is new for ArcGIS Server 9.3. The Java and .NET platforms have been REST enabled. So why have they developed this REST API? Well it’s there so developers can do things simply. Here are some of my notes from the session: With ArcGIS Server 9.3 there is a new geometry service which is a computational service that provides basic geometric operations for web service...
